Materials

  1. Cardboard or tagboard
  2. Scissors
  3. A book about the desert and desert animals
  4. Paper
  5. Green fingerpaint
  6. Sand
  7. Brown or black clay

Instructions

  1. To prepare, make a cactus pattern on cardboard or tagboard and cut it out.
  2. Read a story about the desert and its animal and plant life.
  3. Let the children trace the cactus pattern onto paper and cut it out. Have them fingerpaint the cactus green and then sprinkle sand over it while it is wet.
  4. Talk about rattlesnakes and how they live in the desert. Encourage the children to use brown or black clay to make their own rattlesnakes.

Instructions

1. Write "What we know about a garage sale" at the top of a large piece of
paper. During large group time, ask the children to tell you what they know
about a garage sale. Write down their comments on the large sheet of paper.
If necessary, steer the conversation toward pricing the items for sale.
2. Encourage the children to help set up the dramatic play area for a garage
sale. Help them prepare price tags for the dramatic play items and display
the items around the area.
3. Involve parents, if desired, by requesting they have their child choose an item
from home to add to the garage sale. You can also organize a fundraiser by
having the children and families sponsor a real garage sale.
