Materials

1 whole, unpeeled apple

vegetable peeler

plastic knives

crockpot

3 lb. apples, peeled and sliced

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/2 cup water

wooden spoon

bowls or small cups

plastic spoons

Instructions

1. Show children a whole apple and discuss how to make applesauce.
2. Peel the apple, slice it, and put it into the crockpot.
3. Help the children peel and slice the rest of the apples (supervise closely).
4. Let them help add the apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and
water into the crockpot. Stir.
5. Cook on high for three hours or low for six hours. Safety Note: Make
sure the crockpot is in an area away from the children.
6. Let applesauce cool. Serve in bowls or cups for snack.
