What to do
1. Talk to the children about constellations. Show them a diagram of the Big Dipper and the Little
Dipper. Point out how they resemble their names. Tell the children they are going to design
their own constellations.
2. Have the children affix the stars to their paper in a design of their own creation.
3. Ask them to connect the stars with a black marker.
4. When they have finished, invite the children to name their constellation.
More to do
Cooking: Cut star shapes from cookie dough and bake.
Science: Older children can use a picture of a constellation as a pattern for their design, then look
for it in the night sky. Tape the children's pictures to the ceiling. Bring in a telescope and show the
children how to look through it.
