Instructions

1. Fill the water table or a large tub with water. Drop Ping-Pong balls into it.
2. Encourage the children to use kitchen tongs to catch the floating Ping-Pong
balls.
3. Use this activity to teach numerals, letters, or shapes as well. For example,
write the numbers 0-12 on the Ping-Pong balls using a permanent marker.
Then, label an egg carton with the same numbers.
4. As the children catch the balls, encourage them to drop each ball into the carton
cup that matches the number on their ball.
5. Another example is to use letters instead of numbers. Label the balls and egg
carton cups with various matching letters.
6. Encourage the children to spell names and simple words with the balls.
7. Display short words and pictures to promote the literacy component of this
activity.
More to do
Try burying the Ping-Pong balls in Styrofoam peanuts.
