Tagboard paper scissors white and blue construction paper pencils black crayons glue grass
Instructions
1. Ahead of time, cut out cow patterns from tagboard (see illustration).
2. Read a story about cows to the children. Explain that cows like to eat grass.
3. As a group, write two-line poems about cows. Encourage the children to think of words that rhyme with cow.
4. Ask the children to trace the cow patterns on white construction paper.
5. Invite the children to draw black shapes on their cows.
6. Go outside with the children and pick some blades of grass.
7. Ask the children to spread glue on the bottom half of the blue construction paper. Then they can spread the blades of grass on the glue.
8. While the glue is drying, the children cut out their cow shapes.
