Snow or ice

Large bowls, clear or white

Food coloring

Instructions

1. Give children large bowls filled with snow or ice.

2. Children add a few drops of food coloring, combining red and yellow, blue and yellow or blue andred in different bowls.

3. As the snow (ice) melts, children observe the mixing of the colors into a new color.More to doMore science: Ask children what warmth does to snow. Have them set one bowl of fresh snowon a table inside and one bowl outside. Check both at 15-minute intervals and compare.
