Materials

paperscissorscircular items (ball, round cake pan, hat)

Instructions

1. Cut out at least two different sizes of circles from paper.

2. Show the children the circles and ask them to name the shape.

3. Show examples of circles, such as a ball and the inside of a hat.

4. Ask the children what circles they can see in the room (toys, art work, eyes, clock, and so on).

5. Go on a circle walk to look for circles outdoors. Encourage the children to identify circular shapes. Look for balls, bike wheels, rocks, parts of flowers, acorns, and so on.

6. Return to the classroom and list the circles they found.

7. Repeat the activity another day using a different shape.
