Instructions

1. Salvage any items that are about to be discarded or buy inexpensive items at
garage sales that can be used to make new teaching materials. Choose small
items that have simple shapes and flat backs.
2. To prepare, trace the actual objects onto black construction paper.
3. Cut out the outlines.
4. Glue the black images to the inside of a letter-size file folder.
5. Laminate the file folder (opened).
6. Attach Velcro to the backs of the actual objects and to the black images on
the file folder.
7. Store the actual objects in a zipper-closure plastic bag attached to the back of
the folder.
8. Encourage the child to match the actual object to its "shadow." Something
old has become a new activity for your classroom!
