Materials
Unfrosted cupcakes, one for each child
White frosting
Bowls
Green and red food coloring
Spoon
Plastic knife
Assorted small candies
Instructions
1. Give each child a pile or cup of bite-size snacks.
2. Call out numbers and encourage the children to count out their snack and put
it into piles.
3. Give simple instructions such as, "Eat the pile that has less."
4. As you proceed with this activity, reinforce concepts such as, "Ten is more
than five."
5. Continue giving instructions until everyone has finished their snack.

Extend this activity to the Manipulative Center and encourage the children to
work together, comparing quantities.
