Instructions

1. Put all the mats, blankets, and stuffed animals in place before the children
enter the room. (Make sure the children rest in the same place every day so
they won't have to scurry around looking for their mats.)
2. Before the children enter, cover all the toys and other distractions with sheets
and turn off the lights (or dim them).
3. Have quiet music playing as the children enter and continue playing it during
rest time. Children enjoy classical music and also find environmental sounds
(such as ocean waves, bird calls, and rain showers) to be soothing. These set a
calming mood for rest time.
4. Use a quiet, calming voice to give instructions to the children. If you need to
speak to one child, walk over to that child and speak quietly. Calling across
the room stimulates all of the children.
