Instructions
1. Using poster board, cut out large shapes of fruits (apples, oranges, pears, and
strawberries) from the book. Cut out a hole in each fruit shape big enough for
an arm to fit through. (Enlarge patterns as needed.)
2. On large white poster board, draw the other foods that the caterpillar ate
through (cupcake, pickle, sausage). Cut out the shapes and add a large hole
in the middle of each.
3. As you read the story to the children, make the puppet eat right through the
food shapes.
4. When it is time for the caterpillar to build a cocoon,
make the puppet crawl into the paper bag.
5. Have a butterfly come out of the bag!

More Art: Make egg carton caterpillars.
Music and Movement: Dance to music using scarves (like wings).
Science and Nature: Get a butterfly kit and hatch real butterflies, and then let
them fly free.
