Materials

Large paper grocery bags, one per child

Scissors

Glue

Paint

Paintbrushes or sponges

Empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls

Glitter, yarn, pipe cleaners, pompoms, doilies, and other creative art materials

Instructions

1. Ahead of time, cut a face and arm holes in the bags.

2. Set out the paint and other art materials on a large table.

3. Give each child a bag to create an insect, imaginary or real, using the art materials.

4. Help the children put on their insect costumes and invite them to march around the room.More to doDramatic play: Engage the children in a game of make-believe while they wear their insect costumes.Language: Have the children dictate a story about their insect.
