Materials:

pipe cleaners
beads
small bowls or cups for the beads

Instructions:

1. The children pick two or three bead colors to string on a pipe cleaner in an
ABABAB or ABCABC pattern.
2. When the bracelet is long enough to go around the child’s wrist, the child
stops and twists the ends together. It should be loose enough to slide on and
off without having to untwist the ends.
3. Make sure the ends of the pipe cleaner are turned inward so the child is not
scraped by the wire on the ends.
4. More complex patterns can be created for older children who are ready to
expand pattern making.
More to do Holidays and Special Days: Children can exchange bracelets as part of a
Valentine’s Day or Friendship Day activity. Use holiday colors to create holiday
bracelets (red, pink, and white for Valentine’s Day, orange and black for
Halloween, and so on).
