2 or 3 dowel rods, in various lengths between 36" to 48" (90 cm to 120 cm)

Instructions

1. Discuss with the children that another way of talking is by using our hands.
Explain that they can say the ABCs using their hands and fingers.
2. Show the children the first letters of their names in sign language. This is to
help them make the connection between letters and the signing of letters.
3. Sing the Alphabet Song, signing the letters as you sing.
4. Repeat the song and ask the children to watch for their letters as you sign.
5. Encourage the children to use their fingers and hands to make the letters with
you. Show them how to place their fingers and hands for the different letters.
6. Display the chart so the children can look at it and explore making the signs.
