A group of children

Instructions

1. Put small objects into the bucket.
2. Ask the children to sit in a circle. Explain to them that they are going to tell a
story using their imaginations and the objects from the bucket.
3. Pass the bucket around and encourage each child to take out one object.
4. Pick one child to start the story.
5. Write down what the child says on easel paper.
6. Keep going until every child has a turn telling part of the story.
7. Read the story back to them. It doesn't matter if it makes sense the first time,
the idea is to get them to realize that what they say turns into written words.
8. Hang it in the room so parents can read it.
More to do
Make copies of the stories and compile a classroom book of all the stories of the
year or make a copy for each child to bring home at the end of the year.
