Instructions

What to do
1. Cut sentence strips in half lengthwise to make hatbands, and give one to each child.
Invite the children to personalize their hatbands using markers and stickers.
2. Show the children how to fold one full sheet of tissue paper in half, then in half again to form a
complete square.
3. Cut the ends off so when opened it will be a large circle.
4. Invite the children to glue the edges of the circle to the hatband, scrunching the tissue so the
entire edge of the circle is glued on the band; then have them glue the ends of the hatband
together. You may need to help the
children with this step.
5. Show the children how to puff the
center of the hat by gently pushing
the tissue from the inside of the hat or
placing crumpled tissue paper inside
the hat to help hold the structure.
More to do
Dramatic play: Children can pretend to
be bakers in the Housekeeping Center.
Snack: Children can put on their hats and
mix real bread dough, kneading it on a
clean surface until it is ready to bake.
Serve warm!
