Instructions

* Make sure you have a large open area in which the children can move.
What to Do
1. Have the children form a line to play this variation of "Follow the Leader."
2. The first person in line is the leader. All others are followers.
3. The leader picks an animal and begins moving like that animal around the
playing area.
4. Tell the followers to "Follow that animal." The followers must copy the leader's
movements, following the leader around the playing area.
5. After a minute or so, call "Stop, animals!" to tell the children to stop where
they are.
6. Have the leader move to the back of the line. The next child in line is the new
leader.
7. The new leader chooses an animal and begins moving. Tell the followers to
"Follow that animal."
8. Continue switching leaders until time is up or everyone has had a chance to
be the leader.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* You can have the children make the sound of the animal as well as the
movement.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* As the leader, does the child move appropriately for that animal?
* As a follower, does the child follow the movements of the leader?
