Instructions

1. Ask the children to sit together in a circle.
2. Tell them, "I am going to sort you by what color hair you have." Designate an
area of the room for different hair colors. For example, say, "Frank, you have
black hair go stand by the bulletin board. Kaitlyn, you have red hair go
stand by the door." Repeat this with every child until they all have been
sorted.
3. Go to each group and say, "Everyone in this group has red hair. Is this
correct?" Let them talk about it, then move to the next group and continue,
"Everyone in this group has blonde hair. Is that right?"
4. After each group has been identified, let them go back to their normal activity.
More to do
Take a photo of each child. Put them in a center and encourage the children to
sort them in different ways. Ask them to tell you what categories they used.
5. Repeat this process every day for a length of time. Each time you sort the
children, use a different criteria, such as children wearing pants and children
wearing dresses, children wearing boots and children wearing tie shoes or
Velcro, eye color, and so on.
