Instructions

1. Read and discuss Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson.

2. Invite the children to create a character like Harold and give him or her a name. Lay the bannerpaper on the floor or a long table.

3. Decide what your character will do first, and draw a simple picture using straight or wavy linesin purple crayon. Invite one of the children to continue telling the story and add some lines tothe drawing.
