Instructions

1. On a particularly cold winter day, gather the
children together and discuss the weather
with them.
2. Ask the children if the weather is similar in
the summer.
3. Talk with the children about how the
weather makes them feel. Are they cold? Do
they shiver?
4. Invite the children to stand up and recite the
following song, acting out the words as they
sing it:
Shiver When It Snows by MaryAnn F. Kohl
(Tune: "If You're Happy and You Know It")
Oh, you shiver and you quiver when it snows,
Oh, you shiver and you quiver when it snows,
Your hands feel just like ice,
So you rub them once or twice.
YES, you shiver and you quiver when it snows.
BRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
5. Talk with the children about how moving around can help them to stay warm
in the winter.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children distinguish between the winter and other seasons?
l Are the children able to recite and act out the song?
