Sydney Gurewitz Clemens is an authority on harnessing children's deep feelings to their learning, sometimes called "hot cognition". She has done substantial research on the work of Sylvia Ashton-Warner. She is active in explaining ideas from Reggio Emilia to the English-speaking early childhood community. She has given workshops and speeches throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Sydney was on the faculty of Pacific Oaks College from 1988-1992, and is currently an Extension Instructor at University of California, Davis. She does e-mail and telephone consulting, and teaches individuals in her home. She consults and speaks widely about Ideas from Reggio Emilia and also teaches about children of incarcerated parents.
