Where did the moon go-01


  1. Black construction paper
  2. Scissors
  3. White pencil or crayon
  4. Ruler
  5. Five index cards
  6. Broad black marker
  7. 3" diameter white paper circles
  8. Glue sticks


  1. Cut black construction paper into 6" x 24" strips. Divide each paper strip into five sections using a ruler and white pencil. Give one to each child.
  2. Write the days of the week (Monday through Friday) on index cards. Encourage the children to copy each day of the week at the bottom of each section on their strip using a white pencil.
  3. Ask the children to observe the moon every night for five nights. The following day, the children can cut out the shape of the moon from a white paper circle and glue it the appropriate section of the paper strip (Monday's moon in the Monday section, and so on).
  4. On the nights when the moon is covered with clouds, children may color clouds or glue cotton balls in the designated space. If it rains or snows, children may use a white or light-colored crayon to record this.
  5. Encourage the children to make a prediction on the back of the construction paper strip and draw a special nocturnal scene using crayons. "Which colors work better on the black paper?"
