Instructions

1. While waiting for a visitor to arrive or someone to finish a task and join the
group, try this sing-song chant. Sway as you say, "Waiting and waiting and
waiting and waiting. Waiting for (child's name) to join the group. Waiting and
waiting and waiting and waiting." Repeat the chant as many times as
necessary.
2. Change the song to express an anticipated event, such as cookies to finish
baking, and so on.
3. When the children are sitting at the table waiting for something, play
"Johnny Works With One Hammer."
Johnny works with one hammer, one hammer, one hammer,
Johnny works with one hammer (all the while beat one fist on the table in
rhythm),
Then he works with two.
Johnny works with two hammers, two hammers, two hammers,
Johnny works with two hammers (all the while beat both fists on the table in
rhythm),
Then he works with three.
Johnny works with three hammers, three hammers, three hammers,
Johnny works with three hammers (all the while use both hands and one foot),
Then he works with four.
Johnny works with four hammers, four hammers, four hammers,
Johnny works with four hammers (all the while tap both fists and both feet),
Then he works with five.
Johnny works with five hammers, five hammers, five hammers,
Johnny works with five hammers (all the while tap both fists and both feet,
and nod head),
Then he goes to sleep.
