Clear plastic cups
Stones or marbles
Ruler, Unifix blocks or Cuisinaire rods
Chart with each child’s name labeled
1. Place a scoop of stones or marbles in each cup, and place a bulb on top of the stones.
2. Add water to cover the stones and the bottom of the bulb, and place the cup in a sunny
location where it will not be disturbed.
3. After the bulbs have sprouted, ask the children to measure their growth and record the
results on the chart.
More to do
Art: Cut flower shapes out of sponges. Let the children paint a bouquet with flower prints.
More science: Plant bulbs outdoors in the fall, so in spring the children can find the sprouts.
