Snow in the Night

Materials

black construction paper

white chalk

snowmen or snowflake stickers (optional)

Instructions

Part One (Teacher Preparation)
1. Before the children arrive, use
the hot glue gun to
attach each fabric
square to a 12" x
12" piece of
cardboard.
2. Remove the
protective
layer of the
adhesive
paper and
attach it, sticky
side up, to a
cardboard
square.
3. Lay the squares on
the floor for the babies
to crawl on and explore.
Part Two (Children's Activity)
1. As the babies explore the squares, comment on what they are doing.
"Jamal, you are rubbing the fur. Does that feel fuzzy?" "Angie, how does
the adhesive paper feel? Is it sticky?" "The burlap feels so rough. Do you
like how it feels, Travis?"
2. Pick up the squares when the babies are not actively involved in
exploring them.
3. To keep the squares clean, make sure that no adult steps on the squares
with their shoes on.
More to do For babies who are beginning to pull themselves up, attach texture
squares to the walls for them to explore.
