Winter is in full swing! With the cold taking over, it's only a matter of time before snowflakes fall from the sky. Use the winter season to celebrate snow and make decorations for your classroom!

Here is an art activity from Everything for Winter that teaches children how to create their very own snowflakes!

Learning Objective:

Children will learn to fold and cut snowflakes.

Words to use:

  • snowflake
  • fold
  • cut

Materials:

  • thin typing paper
  • scissors
  • tape

What to do:

  1. Show the children how to fold thin typing paper three times.
  2. Demonstrate how to cut in and out at random, cutting notches and curves but leaving some of the edge uncut.
  3. Unfold the paper to see the snowflakes.
  4. Let the children tape their snowflakes to the windows.

Teaching tips:

Invite a parent or grandparent who is an origami expert to come to class and demonstrate folding and cutting paper into animal and decorative shapes.
