pencils 11" x 17" blue card stock oil pastels or poster paint paintbrushes glueInstructions
1. Show the children the sunflower print. Discuss the colors and the different
angles at which the sunflowers are painted. Some flowers are facing up, some
droop down, and some stand straight. If available, also show real or silk
sunflowers.
2. Demonstrate how to draw the center of a sunflower by making a circle about
three or four inches in diameter on the card stock.
3. Draw petals outward from the center. Emphasize that the petals should be
very big.
4. Using oil pastels or paint, encourage the children to color the petals and
make stems and large leaves.
5. When the colors are painted, ask them to spread glue in the center of the
flower and attach the sunflower seeds.
6. Save some seeds for the children to taste. Ask them to describe what they
taste like.
