Materials

scissors

tacky glue

packets of seeds with photos of the product on the front

rubber cement

Instructions

1. Draw the wing and bird shape on tagboard (see illustration) and cut them
out to make patterns.
2. Let each child choose a piece of red, tan, or blue paper to make her bird the
desired color.
3. Help the children trace the bird and wing on construction paper and cut out.
4. Cut out a diamond shape from yellow paper for a beak. Fold in half and give
one to each child.
5. Ask the children to turn the light blue paper the sideways. Encourage them
to use a black marker to draw a branch across the 12" width of paper and
draw green leaves on the branch.
6. They can use a marker to draw a yellow or orange sun.
7. Provide shredded paper or plastic grass for children to glue on the branch
for a nest. Dab with brown watercolor paint.
8. Demonstrate how to glue the beak, wiggle eyes, and wing on the bird.
9. If desired, children may use a brown or black marker to add eyebrows, head
lines, and feather lines on the tail and wing.
10. Glue the bird into the nest.
