What to do
1. Ahead of time, cut an opening in the center of the magnetic or cardboard sheet to form a
frame for each child. The opening can be in any shape.
2. Have the children glue seashells onto their frame.
3. Supply watercolors, crayons, and markers to the children and encourage them to paint the
seashells and color their frame in a design of their choice.
4. When they are finished, have them add a few beads or sequins as decoration.
More to do
Dramatic play: Add props such as sunglasses, a picnic basket, a beach bag, and ball to the play
area, then invite the children to pretend they are spending the afternoon at the seashore.
Language: Have the children don gear such as goggles and colorful beach hats, then videotape
them as they describe their favorite kind of beach day or what it would be like to swim with dolphins.
More art: Attach a photo and wrap in handmade paper for Father's Day or another special occasion.
Glue lightweight shells on paper in a pattern or design. Add fine sand and small shells to a
clear plastic bottle. Layer colored sand in a clear bottle.
Sand and water table: Add seashells, buckets, sifters, and shovels to the table.
Science: Weigh seashells and compare their size, texture, and color. Record your observations on a
colorful chart.
