Materials
ingredients to make pumpkin pie, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin bread, and
pumpkin seeds a whole pumpkin chart paper markerInstructions
1. Plan on making one pumpkin product a day. Show the children a whole
pumpkin and talk about all the foods that can be made using pumpkin.
2. Invite the children to help pour, measure, and stir. Count how many things the
children put in the bowl and how many times they stir the item.
3. Cook the food and taste it later that day. For example, on Monday, roast
pumpkin seeds; on Tuesday, bake pumpkin bread; on Wednesday, make
pumpkin pancakes; on Thursday, bake pumpkin pie; and on Friday, create a
chart and list all the foods made during the week.
4. Give each child a slip of paper with his name on it, and invite the children to
vote for their favorite pumpkin products.
5. After the children vote, write the outcome at the bottom of the chart. For
example, eight votes for pumpkin pancakes, four votes for pumpkin bread, two
votes for pumpkin pie, and none for pumpkin seeds.
6. Count the votes and talk about which food has the most and the least
amount of votes.
