Construction paper

Scissors

Newspaper

Tempera paint in 2 or 3 colors

Paint containers

Paintbrushes

Straw

Tape

Instructions

1. Beforehand, cut construction paper into pennant shapes. Cover your work area with newspaperand pour the paint into containers.

2. Ask the children to dip their brush in paint and dab color on the pennant. Show them how touse different strokes to create a variety of shapes and lines that conform to the shape of thepennant.

3. When the paint dries, attach a straw or thin roll of newspaper with tape to form a handle.More to doFlannel board: Cut squares and triangles from flannel and fit them on flannel pennants.Snack: Cut peanut butter and jelly finger sandwiches in pennant shapes. Cut wedges of cheeseand serve on triangular-shaped crackers.
