Instructions
1. Prepare a Writing center for children to practice forming numerals. Make a large sign that reads "Writing center" and place it on the table. Hang a large numeral poster in the center. Stock the center with the materials listed on the previous page so the children can practice writing and forming numerals using a variety of materials and mediums.
2. Use a permanent marker or fabric paint to print numerals randomly on the art shirts. Let the shirts dry, and put them in the Writing center.
3. Read one of your favorite number or counting books to the children.
4. Demonstrate how to form each numeral on a chalkboard or dry-erase board.
5. Explain that you've set up a new Writing center so that the children can practice writing or forming numerals in many fun ways. Explain that they can mold numerals out of clay, paint numerals with water, look for and circle numerals in newspapers, and so on.
6. Explain that four children can work at the center at one time and that each person working must wear an art shirt or apron.
7. Model how to use each of the supplies at the center to form numerals. Instruct children about special rules or guidelines for using materials.
8. Invite the children to work at the center to create numerals during learning center time or free play.
9. Have a designated place at the center for children to display their work.
