Instructions

1. This is a good activity for creating
"peace and quiet" after a busy activity
such as playtime, or transitioning from
outdoor play to indoors.
2. Ask the children to join you on the
floor. Turn off the lights and explain
that they are going to slow down,
unwind, and relax by looking at the
second hand on the clock. Remind
them not to talk during this time.
3. This calms them down because children are often entranced by clocks.
More to do Math: Ask the children to count how many times the second hand moves from
the 1 to the 12. Or, tell them they will move on to the next activity when the
little hand reaches 5. Children will soon understand the purpose of the clock.
Another way to use the clock is when you are busy with a few children and
another child wants you to join him. Say, "I will be with you when the big hand
is on the 3!" Children love watching the clock to see if it's time.
