Materials

Balls of yarn (red, yellow, blue, green)

Grids made from plastic rings (used with six-packs of canned soda)

Instructions

What to do
1. Ahead of time, prepare the grid by stapling plastic rings together. Staple several grids together
to create a larger one, if you want.
2. Give children the yarn and invite them to measure each other. They can work in groups of
three, with one child lying down on the floor, another child holding the yarn at his head, and
the third child cutting the yarn at his feet.
3. When all three are measured, invite the children to weave their yarn through the grid.
4. Continue steps two and three until all children are measured, and all the yarn used is woven
into the grid.
More to do
More art: Hang the weaving in the hallway and write a note inviting parents and other teachers
to add other materials (e.g., dried materials, lace, ribbon, small toys) to the project. Expect a colorful,
interesting result. The children love looking for new additions.
