Instructions
11. Read When I Was Young in the Mountains to the children.
12. Encourage the children to tell stories about when they were younger. Use a
tape recorder to capture their thoughts.
13. Give the children construction paper, markers, crayons, and colored pencils
and ask them to make an illustration for their own story.
14. Ask the children if they know any stories about when their parents were
young. Again, use a tape recorder to capture their thoughts.
15. Recruit parents to tell their own childhood stories. Send a note home to
parents explaining about the book you read. Ask them to write a short story
about a childhood memory of their own and send it in with their child.
Make sure they write their name and the location of their story.
16. Read the stories to the children.
17. Give the children construction paper, colored pencils, markers, and crayons.
Encourage them to design an illustration to go with their own parent's story.
18. With the children, design a cover and stack the pages together into a book.
Put each child's story on the page preceding his parent's story.
19. Punch holes into one side and thread yarn through to bind the book.
10. Enjoy reading your book!
More to do

child.
