Instructions

l Fold the 12" x 3" strips of colored construction paper into bands 1 1/2 " wide.
What to Do
1. Ask each child to choose two bands of different colors. Staple one loosely
around each wrist.
2. Ask a child to start the "chain" by choosing another child who has the same
color on one wrist. The child with a matching color band comes up to hold
hands with the first child.
3. Next, the second child chooses another child whose band matches the other
wristband. Continue until everyone has matched with another person's
wristband color.
4. Repeat with a new starting child to make a different chain.
Color Chain by Susan Oldham Hill
(Tune: Second verse of "She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain")
Red holds hands with red, now,
Blue holds hands with blue,
Yellow holds hands with yellow,
And I hold hands with you!
Purple with purple, green with green,
And I hold hands with you!
Orange with orange, brown with
brown,
'Til our chain is through!
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Ask the children, one by one, to match the crayons and the color flash cards.
This is a good time to practice naming the colors as well.
