manila file folder markers paper or card stock self-adhesive Velcro clear contact paper or laminateInstructions
1. Draw or photocopy pictures (or cut from a magazine) of three different
insects: one that starts with A, one that starts with B, and one that starts
with C.
2. Place the pictures on a folder in different places and position a piece of
Velcro next to each one.
3. On another piece of paper or card stock, write the names of each insect
individually.
4. Cut out, laminate, and put Velcro on the back of each word.
5. The goal is for the children to match the written names with the pictures.
6. Consider other letters also, or using bugs that start with the same letter.

Ant Bee Caterpillar
Aphid Beetle Cricket
Arachnid Butterfly Cicada
More to do Science: Add a little science to this activity by putting one large bug on the
page and writing body parts on the cards to match the corresponding
parts of the picture (antennae, thorax, abdomen, and so on).
