decoupage finish (such as varnish or lacquer) (adult only)

Instructions

1. Gather three to four children in a small group. Explain that they will pretend
to go on a hike and see lots of animals.
2. Encourage the children to explore the plastic animals. Let each child choose
three of the animals.
3. Ask the children to display the animals in front of them according to size
smallest to largest. As they set up the animals, prompt them with questions
such as, "Which animal is largest?" " Which animal is smallest?" "Which animal
is in between the others?"
4. Continue the discussion by asking them to think of similar animals that
could be ordered by size, for example, a mouse, dog, and elephant.
5. Mix up the animals and redistribute them. Repeat the activity.
