Non-breakable containers of different sizes: gallon (4 L), half-gallon (2 L), quart (1 L), pint (500 ml) and cup (250 ml), several of each

Water

Water play tub

Instructions

1. Discuss the shapes and sizes of the different containers.

2. Encourage the children to predict which containers hold the same amount of water even though their shapes are different.

3. Place those containers into a water play tub and pour water into one selected container.

4. Do measuring by pouring water from one container to another.

5. Discuss the conclusions the children reach about containers of different shapes and their capacities.
