Materials

wrapping paper

tape

scissors

blocks

small Christmas tree

inexpensive plastic ornaments and decorations (made by the children)

Instructions

1. Encourage the children to help decorate the classroom for Christmas,
Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa.
2. Let the children practice wrapping blocks. Show them how to measure
and cut wrapping paper and tape it around the blocks. Encourage older
children to measure and weigh the different blocks. Ask them which
package is bigger, smaller, wider, and so on.
3. Set up a small Christmas tree and let the children help decorate it any
way they want. They can remove the ornaments and put them back on
as many times as they want. Also put out a menorah and Kwanzaa
decorations for children to decorate with.
4. Ask the children to talk about how their families decorate at home. If
they celebrate Christmas, what do they put on their tree? If they
celebrate Hanukkah, how do they decorate their homes? If they
celebrate Kwanzaa, what color are the decorations? Talk about the
similarities and differences between the way people decorate (whether
they celebrate the same holiday or different holidays).
