Materials

Recycled plastic grocery bags, one per child

Markers

Lightweight sticks about 12" (30 cm) long

Kite string or masking tape

Instructions

What to do
1. Show the children how to put two sticks together, forming an "X," then hold the sticks in place
with string or tape.
2. Let the children decorate their bags with markers.
3. Help the children open the bag as wide as possible and attach the X-shape at the opening of
the bag with masking tape.
4. Tie a 10' (3 m) length of string to the X-shape at its midpoint.
5. Go outside on a windy day and invite the children to run, trailing their kite behind them, coaxing
it to fly.
