Instructions

1. Set up a grocery store center. Ask parents to donate empty boxes and cans from food items. Place them on the shelves of the grocery store.

2. Open the bags and cut out the sides and bottom. Use the front and back of the bag as the front and back cover of a book.

3. Count out ten pages of manila paper and place them between the two covers. Staple the pages in place.

4. Encourage the children to "shop" for their favorite foods or choose foods from each food group in the grocery store center.

5. Give each child a blank book. Ask them to cut out and glue labels on each page of their books.

6. Encourage the children to copy the labels on their pages. They can number the pages, copy letters from the labels, or find prices and write them down.
