Instructions

1. Ahead of time, cut circles from poster board. Punch a hole at the top of each circle.
2. Have the children draw pictures of the people in their family. The children may include extended
family, if they choose, and pets. Write the name of the people on the reverse side of the
drawing. Encourage them to draw a picture of their house or apartment, or of any
place that is particularly important to their family.
3. If possible, laminate the pictures when they are completed.
4. Tie a piece of yarn through the opening in each circle. Attach the opposite end of the yarn to
the hanger, creating a mobile.
5. Hang the mobiles around the classroom.
More to do
Circle time: Ask the children to explain who is on their mobile and perhaps invite a family member
to introduce to the class.
Language: Have the children write or dictate a sentence or two about someone who is very special
to them.
More art: Have the children create characters representing the people in their family from craft
sticks or clay and assorted materials such as yarn and googly eyes.
