Instructions

1. Show the children how to make a chart of their family members. Help the children list their parents, siblings and put their own name down one side of the paper.

2. Across the top, put categories: hair, eyes, skin color and height.

3. Break the categories down even more, for example, under hair, put blonde, brunette and black. Under eyes, put green, blue, brown and hazel. For skin, put light medium and dark and under height, put short, medium and tall.

4. Draw lines vertically and horizontally to make boxes for the categories.

5. Make an X in the box across each of the choices that fit your parents, your siblings and yourself.

6. Do you have physical likenesses of both your parents?7. Add other family members, such as grandparents, aunt and uncles to the chart.

8. After everyone is through, take some time to let each child show her chart. Help her identify similarities and differences among people listed. We are each unique but we also share some common family traits, don't we?
