Instructions

* March is National Nutrition Month.
1. Use this idea to boost the children's phonological awareness.
2. Have the children practice saying each classmate's name and clapping
the syllables ("Mi"-clap-"chael"-clap).
3. Explain that March is Nutrition Month.
4. Collect colored pictures of fruits and vegetables, cut them out, and glue
them to tagboard.
5. Laminate them for durability, and cut out.
6. Hold up a picture and ask a child to name the food on the card and clap
the word parts (syllables). For example, "ra"-clap-"dish"-clap.
7. Have the children identify the number of claps.
