What to do
1. Ahead of time, pour the paint into paint trays and place the trays on a protected work surface.
2. Provide each child with a smock and a piece of construction paper.
3. Invite the children to put an ear of corn in the paint and roll it around, covering the kernels with
paint.
4. Once the kernels are covered, have the children roll the corn onto their paper as if they were
using a rolling pin.
5. Allow the paintings to dry and display them around the room.
More to do
Music: Make corn shakers with empty soda bottles. Fill clean, dry bottles with dried corn kernels
and seal the bottle cap with glue.
Science: Grow corn in your room or outdoors by placing whole kernel feed corn in a large container
or in the ground. Chart its growth. Examine a few ears of corn, both shucked and
unshucked, with magnifiers. Display various kinds of corn: for example, Indian, yellow, and white.
Snack: Make popcorn using a hot air popper and popcorn kernels.
