1. Ahead of time, copy the pocket
pattern (see illustration) and cut it out.
Glue two pocket shapes together,
leaving the top open. Make one for
each child. Let dry.
2. Read the book A Pocket for Corduroy
several times and discuss uses for pockets.
Ask the children wearing clothing with
pockets to stand; count the number of
pockets each child has. Discuss phrases such
as "pocket watch" and "pocket change."
3. Give each child a paper pocket and a small
flocked bear.
4. Encourage the children to decorate their
pockets using markers. Then they can stick their bears into the pocket and
re-read the story.
