Instructions

What to do
1. Give each child a sheet of construction paper
folded in half horizontally.
2. Have the children trace around the stocking
pattern onto the construction paper.
3. Cut out the pattern, going through both
pieces of the folded paper. The children
should end up with two stocking pieces
exactly the same size.
4. Paperclip the two pieces together. Have the
children punch holes around the perimeter.
Do not punch holes across the top of the
stockings.
5. Give each child a piece of yarn and tie it onto
the top hole on one side of the stocking. Let
the children "sew" the stockings together.
6. When they have completed sewing their
stockings, tie off the yarn in the last hole.
Loop the remaining yarn across to where the
yarn was initially tied on to form a hanger at the top of the stocking.
7. Encourage the children to decorate their stockings using markers, glue, glitter, buttons, etc.
More to do
Bulletin board: Cut out a large paper fireplace and staple it to a bulletin board. Hang the stockings
on the "fireplace."
Language: Have the children dictate what they would like to receive in their stockings while you
write it down.
