Chicken Soup With Rice by Maurice Sendak

Instructions
1. On each piece of tagboard, copy a poem from the story Chicken Soup With
Rice.
2. Laminate each of the cards for durability.
3. For each month of the school year, read one poem to the children.
4. Choose a child each day to circle the letters. Write the upper- and lowercase
letters on the chalkboard so the children can notice whether they are the
same or not. Then, brainstorm a list of words that start with that letter sound
and use it as the letter for the day.
