Instructions

1. Give each child a pair of old slippers. Encourage them to decorate the
slippers as desired using pompoms, old material, ribbon, and so on.
2. Make tiny "sleeping bags" by folding a 3" square of felt or fabric in half. Cut off
the 1/2 " of felt at the top of one of the folded sides. Glue the bottom and side
together, leaving the top part open (like a sleeping bag).
3. Make "pajama kids" with the children. Give each child a tiny sleeping bag and
a large bead. Demonstrate how to glue the bead at the top of the felt
sleeping bag (at the opening). Encourage them to glue yarn "hair" and
wiggle eyes to the bead and add facial features using a permanent marker.
4. Have a pajama relay. Gather in a large, open area and divide the children into
two groups. Put two baskets of pajamas, slippers, nightcaps, and so on at the
end of the relay area. When you signal them to start, one person from each
team runs down to the basket, dresses for bed, and runs back. The child tags
the next person in line. The tagged child helps the first take off the pajama
items, and puts them on herself. This continues until all the children have run
the race.
5. Have a pajama party day! The children wear their favorite pajamas and they
bring a favorite sleep toy and sleeping bag to school. Pop popcorn and have
an old-fashioned slumber party during the day or at naptime.
